Konstantinovka is located at the southernmost tip of the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration, a string of cities in the northwest of Russia\u2019s Donetsk People\u2019s Republic (DPR), which Ukrainian troops have turned into a single, heavily fortified fortress, riddled with a vast system of reinforced trenches, tunnels, and bunkers. The city lies some 15km southeast of Kramatorsk, with the small town of Druzhkovka located in between.<\/p>\n<p>Gaining control of Konstantinovka opens new opportunities for Moscow to advance on the last Ukrainian stronghold in Donbass, Krapivnik told RT on Saturday.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n        <span><strong>Read more<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<figure>\n            <img src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" alt=\"RT\" class=\"lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/www.youtubexyoutube.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/6a4837c22030275c7f3937d1.png\"><figcaption><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/russia\/642561-russia-liberates-donbass-city\/\">The key to Donbass: Russia liberates Konstantinovka<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><em>\u201cThe last portion of the Ukrainian fortifications, real hard fortifications that have been prepared since 2014, is between Druzhkovka and Slavyansk\u2026 with Konstantinovka being the linchpin at the bottom of this wall,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThis is very important because this also allows Russian forces to go around Druzhkovka and Kramatorsk and start to hit them in a double envelopment,\u201d<\/em> he added.<\/p>\n<p>The situation for Ukrainian frontline troops in the area appears to be dire, with both attempts to hold their positions and efforts to retreat likely to result in heavy losses due to <em>\u201cRussian drone dominance, Russian artillery, and Russian aviation,\u201d<\/em> Krapivnik believes.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cAt this point, the only way they\u2019re coming out of this alive is to surrender.
