The controversial EU diplomat has also been slammed for \u201ccriminal\u201d hypocrisy by Amnesty International<\/strong><\/p>\n

Russia\u2019s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vassily Nebenzia, launched a stinging rebuke of EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas\u2019 address at the UN Security Council in New York on Monday.<\/p>\n

Kallas has since been accused of \u201ccriminal\u201d<\/em> double standards in her speech by Amnesty International for ignoring US and Israeli crimes against Iran.<\/p>\n

The controversial diplomat spoke during the annual Security Council session on EU-UN cooperation, during which she lamented the \u201cgreatest breakdown of international law since the Second World War,\u201d<\/em> without once mentioning the US or Israel, but mentioning Russia 11 times.<\/p>\n

Amnesty International Secretary General Agnes Callamard slammed Kallas in a post on X, blasting her \u201cdeliberate failure to mention the two actors responsible for the greatest violations of international law,\u201d<\/em> referring to the US and Israel.<\/p>\n

So today, at the Security Council, High Representative Kaja Kallas has lamented the gravest violation and breakdown of international law since the Second World War, evident, I quote “in today\u2019s two pre-eminent global crises \u2014 Russia\u2019s war of aggression against Ukraine and the war\u2026<\/p>\n

Kallas\u2019 unwillingness to name them \u201cis not just cowardice. It is criminal,\u201d<\/em> Callamard said, adding that such double standards are what is \u201cdestroying international law.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

In a 12-minute response to Kallas in the council, Nebenzia ridiculed her historical ignorance, recalling her comment that it was \u201csomething new\u201d<\/em> that Russia and China fought together against Nazism in World War II.<\/p>\n

Kallas, like EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, has a long history of avoiding criticism of Washington while regularly engaging in unhinged attacks on Moscow.<\/p>\n

Her claim to have been surprised that Russia and China, who together lost some 35 million people during WW2, are considered among the conflict\u2019s victors was described by Responsible Statecraft as \u201cshocking ignorance.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
