Both described the talks as constructive and warm and said they had made progress toward a Ukraine peace deal.<\/p>\n<p>Putin said that with Trump\u2019s arrival in the White House, <em>\u201ca light at the end of the tunnel\u201d<\/em> had appeared for restoring ties. He added that he hoped Trump\u2019s leadership qualities would help secure further progress and that the first steps already taken were <em>\u201conly the beginning of a full-scale revival of our relations.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s leadership offers a <em>\u201cstrong guarantee that our relations will improve,\u201d<\/em> Putin noted, adding that he hoped their <em>\u201cjoint work would continue.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\n        <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/russia\/623435-putin-stop-ukraine-war\/\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n            <span>READ MORE: <\/span>Russia doing everything possible to stop Ukraine war \u2013 Putin<br \/>\n        <\/a>\n    <\/p>\n<p>The Russian president stressed, however, that the progress does not depend on Moscow alone, pointing out that Washington remains bound by obligations to organizations such as NATO.
