{"id":1835,"date":"2025-08-20T19:16:18","date_gmt":"2025-08-20T19:16:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.youtubexyoutube.com\/?p=1835"},"modified":"2025-08-22T13:53:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-22T13:53:11","slug":"ex-russian-mp-accused-of-selling-information-to-us-for-45mn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.youtubexyoutube.com\/index.php\/2025\/08\/20\/ex-russian-mp-accused-of-selling-information-to-us-for-45mn\/","title":{"rendered":"Ex-Russian MP accused of selling information to US for $45mn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Magomed Gadzhiev sought foreign citizenship in exchange for sensitive data, the prosecutor\u2019s office says<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A former Russian MP was paid $45 million from the US government after transferring secret information to the West, Russia\u2019s General Prosecutor\u2019s Office has said.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement on Wednesday cited by several Russian media outlets, the office said that Magomed Gadzhiev, who fled Russia in 2023 after the start of the Ukraine conflict, <em>\u201cexpressed readiness to cooperate with Western intelligence services in exchange for foreign citizenship\u201d<\/em> of an unspecified country.<\/p>\n<p>It noted that the ex-MP received <em>\u201cat least $45 million\u201d<\/em> from unnamed American government agencies, adding that this was allegedly revealed by the US Department of Government Efficiency, formerly led by Elon Musk. The prosecutors, however, did not specify what information Gadzhiev had passed to the West.<\/p>\n<p>A court in the southern Russian region of Dagestan is seeking to designate Gadzhiev and members of his family <em>\u201cextremists\u201d<\/em> and nationalize his business enterprises and confiscate assets. Russian authorities have also accused him of publicly supporting Kiev and <em>\u201cdiscrediting\u201d<\/em> Russia\u2019s armed forces, saying he declared abroad that he was ready to assist Ukraine\u2019s backers.<\/p>\n<p>Details of the case have not been disclosed, including any potential penalties if the suspects are detained in Russia.<\/p>\n<p>In May 2023, the Justice Ministry designated Gadzhiev \u2013 who has also been expelled from the ruling United Russia party \u2013 a foreign agent, and a year later, he was put on a wanted list. Sergey Melikov, the head of Dagestan, called him a <em>\u201ccoward and a traitor,\u201d<\/em> adding that the ex-MP was ready to <em>\u201cthrow mud\u201d<\/em> at what was <em>\u201cdear\u201d<\/em> to his compatriots in exchange for an EU passport.<\/p>\n<p>Gadzhiev served in Russia\u2019s tax authorities in senior roles before entering parliament and was a State Duma deputy from 2003 to 2021.
