Russia can deploy ground-based intermediate-range missiles wherever it deems necessary, the Kremlin spokesman has said<\/strong><\/p>\n Russia\u00a0has the right to deploy ground-based intermediate-range missiles \u201cwhen deemed necessary,\u201d<\/em> following the collapse of the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty with the US, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said. Moscow had previously opted not to station the weapons in certain regions unless the US and its allies did so first.<\/p>\n On Monday, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that the \u201cactions of Western countries\u201d<\/em> had made Moscow\u2019s adherence to the moratorium no longer viable as they were creating a \u201cdirect threat\u201d<\/em> to Russia\u2019s security.<\/p>\n Asked by journalists to comment on Tuesday, Peskov said Russia \u201cno longer has any limitations in this regard\u201d<\/em> and \u201cno longer considers itself bound by anything.\u201d<\/em> Moscow reserves the right to deploy these missiles \u201cwhen deemed necessary,\u201d<\/em> he added.<\/p>\n The Kremlin spokesman did not elaborate on whether decisions on potential missile deployments had already been made. \u201cOne can hardly expect any announcements here,\u201d<\/em> Peskov said, describing it as a question of national defense and \u201ca sensitive and secretive field.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
