President Donald Trump has described the recent visit of his special envoy to Moscow as \u201chighly productive\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

A path to peace in the Ukraine conflict could be taking shape, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said, following a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US special envoy Steve Witkoff in Moscow.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday was a good day,\u201d<\/em> Rubio told Fox Business following the talks on Wednesday. \u201cWe still have a ways to go, but we\u2019re certainly closer today than we were yesterday \u2013 when we weren\u2019t close at all.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Rubio acknowledged that a peace deal would require difficult concessions. While \u201ceverybody wants the war to end,\u201d<\/em> he stressed that the challenge lies in agreeing on the terms.<\/p>\n

Rubio downplayed expectations of an imminent truce, saying the exact timing \u201cwas not discussed.\u201d<\/em> But Washington now has a \u201cbetter understanding\u201d<\/em> of the conditions under which Russia would be willing to agree to a settlement in the Ukraine conflict, he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the first time, perhaps, since this administration began, we have some concrete examples of the kinds of things that Russia would ask for\u201d<\/em> to agree to a peace deal, Rubio said without specifying the demands.<\/p>\n

If the two sides can move closer, Rubio suggested that a high-stakes diplomatic summit could follow.<\/p>\n

If we can get what the Ukrainians will accept and what the Russians will accept close enough, then I think there\u2019s the opportunity for the president to have a meeting that includes both Putin and Zelensky to try to close this thing out.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Moscow characterized the three-hour talks with Witkoff at the Kremlin as \u201ca very useful and constructive conversation.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Trump also praised the outcome as \u201chighly\u00a0productive,\u201d<\/em> writing on Truth Social that both countries would work to end the conflict \u201cin the days and weeks to come.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
