The bloc is trying to overturn a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/russia\/621697-eu-candidate-blocks-opposition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ban<\/a>\u00a0preventing it from taking part in Moldova&#8217;s\u00a0parliamentary elections to be held in September.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cLaw enforcement is turning offices and homes upside down solely under this demented suspicion of interference in the 2025 election, which hasn\u2019t even taken place,\u201d<\/em> Shor said. <em>\u201cThese searches are just more political repression and intimidation of anyone who refuses to support those scoundrels.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n        <span><strong>Read more<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<figure>\n            <img src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" alt=\"RT\" class=\"lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/www.youtubexyoutube.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/688a0f1285f5400dfd5d096d.jpg\"><figcaption><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/russia\/622252-peskov-sandu-election-interference\/\">Kremlin denies seeking to \u2018control\u2019 EU candidate state<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Last week, Moldovan President Maia Sandu, who Shor has branded a <em>\u201cmicrodictator,\u201d<\/em> accused the Russian government of planning to covertly funnel more than \u20ac100 million ($115 million) to her political opponents ahead of\u00a0the\u00a0elections. The Kremlin has\u00a0dismissed the claim as another attempt by Chisinau to deflect attention from the government\u2019s erosion of democratic norms.<\/p>\n<p>Sandu has defended her administration\u2019s crackdown on what she claims are pro-Russian criminal networks, saying these actions are critical to keeping Moldova on the path to EU membership.<\/p>\n<p>Shor, who now\u00a0lives\u00a0in Russia, is the founder of the SOR party, which was outlawed by the Moldovan authorities in 2023 after its candidate, Evgenia Gutsul, won a regional election in the autonomous Gagauzia region.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Gutsul was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/russia\/622531-moldova-jailed-gutsul-gagauzia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sentenced<\/a> this week to seven years in prison over alleged financial crimes.
