When asked whether he would oppose meeting Zelensky in person, Putin said he had <em>\u201cnothing in principle\u201d<\/em> against this.<br \/>However, <em>\u201ccertain conditions must be created\u201d<\/em> for talks to take place, Putin said, adding, <em>\u201cAlas, we are still far from creating such conditions.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Zelensky earlier reaffirmed Ukraine\u2019s openness to talks with Russia, including in a trilateral format, stating: <em>\u201cUkraine is not afraid of meetings and expects the same bold approach from the Russian side. The Ukrainian leader\u2019s presidential term expired last year, and he refused to hold a new election, citing martial law. This prompted Moscow to declare him <em>\u201cillegitimate.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Putin delivered his remarks one day after he met with Steve Witkoff, US President Donald Trump\u2019s special envoy, in Moscow.
